I hope every grandma cherishes her grandma memories like I do.
I keep a note pad of the cutest things our first grandson is saying, or
doing. And it’s a laugh out loud (LOL)
moment when I go back and reread those special grandma memories.
Our 20 month old has been giving us the thumbs up on his
favorite things that he loves for 8 months now.
When he really likes something, he squeezes his fists and gives us the
biggest grin possible to communicate, “I love it” and then he holds that pose
to reinforce the “love”. So with a new
treat, or a new activity, we’re always asking, “Do you love it?” And I can tell you he loves pizza, little
friends around his own age, popsicles, and flowers. These are a few of his favorite things!
“Honey, Honey, Honey”
is another one of those LOL grandma memories.
I know I was violating a code of grandma etiquette by laughing at Seth’s
excited, “Honey, Honey, Honey” call when his Mom and I were carrying on a
conversation and he wanted us to pay attention to him. The appropriate response would surely have
been, “Just a minute until we’re done talking”.
But no, I had to interrupt our conversation and ask,” Yes, Honey, what
do you want?” Usually all he wanted was
the attention of his mommy and Nana. Sometimes
he did actually want some juice or a snack, but more often than not, it was
only an attention getting device. This
went on during a 17- hour road trip to Minnesota with just the 3 of us in the
car. I totally encouraged him to
continue with this , “Honey, Honey, Honey” interruption until it wasn’t so
funny anymore on the return 17 - hour drive back home to Colorado. I have to admit, I owe it to our daughter to
un-encourage this behavior, but it is so darling and so Seth David. He knows he’s getting a reaction and that I
think it is so cute, so I hope he grows out of it before I have to put a stop
to it!
Nana’s Advice: Stop
and enjoy the grandma memories with
each one of your grandchildren. They
don’t stay at any one stage very long and it can truly be a laugh out loud memory for grandma, grandpa, mom and
dad alike.
