"If you don’t believe in angels, you haven’t met my grandma!" I have always believed in angels, in fact, I think I have one sitting by my side right now. But when I saw this message , it made me want to cry. Grandmas sometimes act a lot like I think angels would act. Grandmas aren’t upfront and on center stage. Grandmas aren’t looking for a lot of acknowledgement. They’re always close at hand (whether on the phone, living nearby or through Skyping (which grandmas are doing more and more of!)). A grandchild always knows where they stand with grandma – she loves them no matter what. It’s good to turn to grandma when there’s a boo-boo. When grandma tucks you in for the night, they feel soft and yet strong. A grandma never seems to get enough of her grandson or granddaughter. A grandma doesn’t need to say a lot, but you know they love you.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all meet our guardian angel that I think follows each one of us around through our lives and makes the hard things, the sad things and the hurtful things better just by being there. If we met our guardian angel, we might think they look and sound and smell just like our grandma! And maybe that’s why God supplied Grandmas and made them special – so we would have a visible guardian angel around to remind us of how much we are loved.
I know I'm not as good as a real angel because sometimes I get so tired, or I'm hurrying to get things done, or I don't want to go out and blow bubbles any more because it's cold outside (Ok, that just happened this weekend!). But I hope my 2 grandsons, Seth and Asher, know that I love them no matter what, know that I will always take time for them, and know that I love to tuck them in at night. So, Grandma or angel - take your pick.
